In 2024 the US Census Bureau reported that more than 11% of Americans had moved within the last year of being surveyed.
11% feels small in the context of “11 out of 100,” but really… 11% of the 2024 US population is estimated to represent about 37.6 million people….
If you think that those 37 + million people all knew exactly where they wanted to be once they’d finished packing up their boxes, you’re wrong!

Moving and the process leading up to moving can be exhausting and full of really stressful decision making.
There are so many different reasons someone may decide to move. Individuals and families may be getting tired of local traffic or being called on by family to care for an older parent or relative, while businesses may see a decline in foot traffic or the imposition of a competitor.
Whatever the reason is that you’re moving, you can be sure there’s an adventure ahead of you.
And not everyone is good at adventure… Some folks LOVE the unknown. They enjoy planning for adventure – the drive, the snacks, the new favorite park the kids will play at, or their next dentist’s office.
But some of us DO NOT handle the pressure of adventure well.
No shame if that’s you. I’m not judging you!
Once upon a time adventure was not in my wheelhouse either. I needed everything to be predictable and safe or I would flounder in anxiety.
Moving can 100% create those anxious feelings that come with looking into the unknown. You do not have to face those feelings alone while making such important decisions.
Where to Next Consulting is here to support you with moving decisions. We do the research when you don’t want to, don’t know how to, or are just too overwhelmed to sit down and start the process.
We’re not a moving company. We don’t pack or haul boxes.
We take the time to hear about what you want next for yourself, your family, or your business THEN we get to work learning about what’s out there for you.
We help people fill in the blanks when they can’t decide “Where to next?” We help people explore job markets, school districts, local economies, public transportation, and water quality in cities, towns, or states that feel like they MIGHT be a good fit.
If you’re just getting started with your move research OR you’ve been drowning in the moving weeds for a while – REACH OUT.
